Upgrade HV-01 Hard Drives, Part Two

Today I start by opening Windows Admin Center and connect to HV-01. I head to virtual machines and select VM-01. I tell VM-01 to shut down. Then I move VM-01 to the C: temporarily. After VM-01 boots back up I verify it is running properly.

I then power down HV-01 and then physically open it up to remove that 1TB hard drive. I swap it out for the 8TB drive. Then I power HV-01 back on. That's strange, with the new drive in it would not boot. It was a working drive that I verified after the USB enclosure died. Hell, the machine seems slower than normal to even boot through BIOS or to even load BIOS. Do I have a memory timing issue or something?

My first thought went to the master boot record had somehow been placed on that 1TB drive by accident. It turned out though to be an issue with the 8TB drive. I connected it to my desktop via a USB dock, then wiped and formatted it. Then putting it back into HV-01 it's performing better now.

I format the 8TB disk as file-drive7(E:) and leave 50GB for a second partition vm-02(Y:). With both partitions formatted and ready to go. I begin a migration of VM-02 from it's temporary home on C: to it's new home on Y:.

After five hours I come back to check on the migration. It's progressed from 11% to 14%. Whoo boy! It looks like this migration has brought the OS drive in HV-01 to it's knees. It is really struggling. I'll have to plan to replace that OS drive soon I suppose. Oh well I can be patient. I'll come back to check on it's progress tomorrow.
