This morning after scheduling a nightly maintenance reboot I awoke to find this server unresponsive. The machine had power as I can see the front light is still lit up. I turned on HV-02's monitor to find a POST error that the CPU temperature is too high. Going into the BIOS I see the temp is currently hovering between 60 and 61 degrees Celcius. Holy cow! BIOS shows the CPU fan is spinning. I end up opening up the case to see if that helps lower temperatures but it doesn't seem to help at all. It does successfully boot into Windows Hyper-V Standalone for me. It looks like I need to reapply thermal paste to this computer.

I end up getting distracted by the little one and leave the machine up and running while we go and eat some breakfast. After breakfast I check back in on the machine and it seems to have cooled off some and settled in at 46 degrees Celcius. Still too hot. The CPU heatsink and fan in this computer were never great. I think I'm going to pick up a new heatsink and fan along with the thermal paste and replace all three at once.
