Linux Up Skill – Day 0

L

A day 0 to prep. Sounds great! They say each day’s lesson should take between 1 and 2 hours depending on your skill level. So I do appreciate them giving some prep before the lessons start in June. Day 0 is focused on preparing your own server. They are recommending Google Cloud as the platform to set up with. I’m familiar with setting up servers in AWS and Azure so I’m going to...

Setting Up R730 Part 4

After my little side trip down Hyper-V Manager configuration errors I’m ready to finish setting up in Hyper-V. From Windows Admin Center I create a 300GB drive partition to get me started with setting up some virtual machines. I set Hyper-V’s default disk and VM paths to this drive. I then set up a few virtual switches. That will do it I am ready to set up some virtual machines and...

Setting Up R730 Part 3

Coming back to that error I experienced connecting to the server from Hyper-V Manager on my desktop: …Check that the Virtual Machine Management service is running and that you are authorized to connect to the server. You do not have the required permission to complete this task. Contact the administrator of the authorization policy for the computer… I go back through Microsoft’s...

Setting Up R730 Part 2

Well with my OS on a trusty thumb drive I plug it into the server and came back to my desktop. I finish the Lifecycle wizard and the server reboots. It boots right up from the thumb drive and begins the Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2019 installation. I create a 75GB partition for the OS. I am old dog and remember the days of gnashing your teeth over that OS drive being full and having no good options...

Setting Up R730

I got to play some more with my new server this weekend! I plugged in some ethernet cables. What an old hodgepodge collection of cables I have sitting around. Maybe at some point I’ll clean up my cabling. I sat down and read through the server’s documentation. I keep seeing info about Lifecycle, this is newer and I’ve never worked with it before. Let’s play with it! I boot...

Studying for the Azure Fundamentals certification the past few weeks has reminded me of my passion for IT. The past few years I have not been able to put any time towards maintaining or growing my IT skills due to learning the field of occupational health and safety. It has been great getting back into thinking about IT and all the amazing things we can do! I started thinking about how years ago...

Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals

M

This morning I passed the AZ-900 exam becoming certified in Azure Fundamentals. I was extremely stressed this morning. I was supposed to take the exam last week but was unable to due to a power outage and damaged computer equipment. I did not sleep well all weekend due to other problems that arose. The extra days did not feel like a blessing, instead they felt like a weight around my neck slowly...

9/11 – A Present

9

Yesterday would have been my grandfather’s 94th birthday. It’s weird to think about that, let alone write it out. I miss him a great deal.  While everyone else was thinking and talking about the 2001 tragedy I was thinking of him. It may be selfish of me but that’s life. I decided to give my grandfather a birthday present I know he would have loved: My grandfather donated 35...
